Hello World, It's Me Again I

Tue Oct 30, 2007, 5:43 PM
Thinking in Another Language.

We think in English, because that was the language we learned at the earliest time. If you think about it, people in other countries think in other languages. I often wondered if people who learn a second language learn to think in that language, or if they just translate each word quickly from English to French/ French to English, or whatever language it is that they have learned. I think it is very important that infants are taught in 2 different languages. It would be much nicer if we could be bilingual earlier, because we have so much more room in our skulls at that time. America feels uncultured to me, because often times we can hear the phrase “Your in Amurica, so speak English, got it?” Instead it should be “You’re on Earth so speak it all.” Of course learning all 6800 languages would be a toughie, but we should still get a jump start on being more cultural.

Cashing in On Zen Buddhism.

Lately in my periodic strolls around places of consumerism, I’ve noticed that there are many products that call themselves “Zen”, “Natural” or “Organic”. I’ve also seen Mini Zen Gardens, My Little Buddha, and many other types of cheap items that don’t really hold much sentimental value. I’m not sure how those who actually are Buddhist feel about this new corporate strategy, all I know is that it seems to be working. Oh well, it doesn’t seem to be doing much harm, as long as it doesn’t get out of hand.

Look at me, I’m Popular!

Striving to be well known is something that most people try to do. Why is it that people will go to such extents as to conform with others just so that they will be excepted in a social group? What is it that really makes people cool? What makes people cool is the fact that others look upon them that way. Without other people, one does not have the cool attribute. Making other people think you are cool is just a matter of image. Naturally, if you are a person of an attractive build, you will be more liked. If you look a certain way, then people will see you differently. This matter of image is an open subject to change, though. Just look at the 60’s. So the fact that being cool is just a matter of other people putting the crown on you, It seems like it’s a better idea to become more familiar with yourself, knowing that the throne of popularity is held by unsteady and easily impressionable hands.
